📖 "Johann Christian (the 'Milan' or 'English' Bach), the youngest son of J. S. Bach, like Friedemann, he was endowed with great talent, but almost as light-minded. After his father's death he was trained by Philipp Emanuel Bach, went in 1754 as organist to Milan, and became there an opera composer à la mode. In 1759 he came to London and became court composer; he also gained a great but ephemeral success as a composer of Italian opera." Hugo Riemann Dictionary of Music (1896)
